I received several comments, mostly from visiting athletes, that one of the most memorable things about 70.3 Calgary was the friendliness of the other athletes. I have heard several stories of people stopping their race to help others.

Be proud that you didn't "lose it" on race day Jeff, even the best in the world can lose their cool under the stress of racing.

Amazing story Caroline! I was on the ramp when you came out of the water - I looked at my brother and said that sometimes you have to wait to the end to see the real courage in a race.

Marc,
I thoroughly enjoyed your article. My breathing stopped and started and my heart rate raced as I read of your ordeal in the swim. Many people use the excuse of not being able tro swim as a reason not to do a triathlon. I was one myself. My wife is an Ironman veteran and an excellent swimmer. She is my inspiration and motivation for learning to swim. All the emotions you described experienced I as I went through the learning to swim basics. It started from "bubbleblowers" at the edge of the pool two years ago at 49 years of age until I finished IMC 2008 in August. It is, as they say, "the journey and not the destination". A trip I will never forget. Your inspirational story will help to convince many others to take this trip.
